7 Self-Care Tools This Mama is Loving Right Now
Finding time to take care of myself has seemingly become so much more important since becoming a mom. Having a little one that requires constant care has just amplified the need for recharging my batteries. While taking a full day to go to the spa (or honestly even a few hours to the masseuse) or a weekend retreat on an island to not seem to be in my foreseeable future, I feel that I have begun to master the art of relaxing and recharging in short windows of time. Here are a few tools that have been helping me fill my cup:
Lilly Be Anti-Aging Cream - I met Lissette at super cool mom event Drive by Grace a few months back and bought some of this anti-aging cream (I don't know about you, but being a mom has truly made my wrinkles more pronounced). I am obsessed, I would literally bathe in this product if I could. All of her products use only certified organic or wild harvested ingredients and contain no parabens, chemicals, fragrances, etc. The anti-aging cream includes luscious ingredients like jojoba oil, pomegranate seed oil, shea butter, palmarosa oil and more.
Acuball - I discovered Dr. Cohen's Acuball at the Yoga Journal Conference in New York City 8-ish years ago and it has since been essential to both my pain relief and self care routines (make sure to check in with your health care providers before starting new self treatment routines). In my opinion, if you don't have time to go for a massage (I don't), this ball is the next best thing. The ball is designed to release muscle tension at various tension points. It is also heatable, which is a luxurious bonus. Try their brilliant Click Where You Hurt function to watch a video on how to relieve what is ailing you.
Traditional Medicinals - For me, a hot cup of herbal tea (yes, even in Miami) is an instant calming agent. Traditional Medicinals is one of my favorite tea purveyors because they are crazily committed to a clean product (they source 97% organic raw materials, are Non-GMO Project Verified, source FairWild® Certified and Fair Trade Certified™ ingredients, are a Certified California Green Business, members of the Sustainable Food Trade Association (SFTA), are a Certified B Corporation,California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and more), and you can find it everywhere (or at least everywhere I shop: Whole Foods, Publix, Amazon). My favorite Traditional Medicinal teas du jour are Ginger
Lounge Gear - I seriously can't get enough of Athleta's super soft, sustainable fabrics. Check out these pieces made from Lenzing Modal®, a fiber that is produced from European beechwood trees harvested from sustainable forests. You won't ever want to take them off. (Athleta doesn't pay me to be obsessed with their clothes, but I do teach a class at their Miami location - check it out).
Insight Timer - Insight Timer is my go-to meditation app. I have a timer set up for a daily 5:00 minute meditation (to make sure I get it in) and when I need a deeper release, I turn on this tibetan sound bowl stream from Sonic Yoga.
A Gentleman in Moscow - I used to be an avid reader of non-fiction, but now crave the escapist qualities of a good novel when I am able to carve out time to read. A Gentleman in Moscow takes you on an elegant journey of a man on house arrest in a hotel in Moscow over several decades.
Intuitive Gangster - Intuitive Gangster is a modern mysticism, enlightened events + intuitive living company created by Jenna Guadagni and Lauren Angueira based in Miami. I am loving their posts on badass mystical things on their Instagram and blog. Check out this recent post about the Blue Moon on March 31, 2018. They also have cool moon kits and manifestation candles and things.
